Mediation committee put in place to solve the leadership wrangles among the two factions of the National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) has called for new elections to restore the union.
Press conference issued on Wednesday by the nine-member committee have resolved to disperse the union and called for new elections next week.
Spokesman of the committee Abdulkadir Mohamed Dulyar who issued the press state to the media has said the committee will move to the next face in preparation for the national elections.
“The committee is planning the national elections next week which is comprised of inviting delegates and representatives from the regions of the country and we will share the developments with the media,†he said.
Dulyar added that legitimate media practitioners across the country will take part in the decision-making process meant to restore the National Union of Journalists in Mogadishu.
The committee has also urged the federal government to avoid any contact with the two leaders of the factions involved in the NUSOJ leadership dispute.
Somali Independent Media Houses Association (SIMHA) has welcomed the new development and called for transparent elections.
