Photos of the bodies of four Alshabaab militants lying dead in brand new Somali Police uniform has put the security agencies on the spot.
The Somali public expressed shock that militants were able to disguise themselves as government security agents enabling them to access restricted area near the Presidential palace.
Senator Hussein Sheikh Mohamud says Somali civilians are at risk of similar attacks in the future.
“As parliamentarians, we are saying the Somali citizens should rely on themselves. We are suggesting that we should defend ourselves from these anti-peace men. We are urging the government to do its job and guarantee the security of the Somali people†Mohamud said.
Mohamud criticized the government for failing to act upon Intel of a possible attack.
“The surprising thing is that the uniforms and ID cards of the Somali police and NISA agency are being used to get access to the Presidential palace where we had confidence and used to walk around. There is a serious weakness if the security agencies were aware of the issue, the type of vehicle to be used was mentioned and at the same time they came up to the Presidential palace†Mohamud said.
“The city was at peace for several months but it has emerged that the peace was not achieved through the effort of any human being but that those men were away on their own. We are urging the government to do a good job and work on how to protect the Somali people†he said.
At least 45 people were killed in the attack by militant group Alshabaab targeting Villa Somalia and area near the NISA headquarters.
