Somalia government on Sunday released a consignment of bullet proof housing material imported by the UAE Embassy that had been seized early January
Prime Minister Hassan Ali Kheire was at the Mogadishu sea port and ordered to oversee the release of the consignment that had threatened to brew into a diplomatic row.
The consignment consisted of bullet proof doors and windows among other housing material.
Turkish Albayrak Group which manages the sea port had been ordered by the Somali government to seize the consignment after the Emirati embassy in Mogadishu declined to have it inspected.
According to Mogadishu Port official who spoke to Radio Dalsan the government had ordered the seizure of the “suspicious consignment” to allow investigation.
A diplomatic row between UAE and Somali government had been ongoing since the new government took power last year and it is suspected that the seizure was politically instigated.
PM Kheyre is expected to visit UEA this week in a bid to mend diplomatic ties with the Gulf state.
A source told Radio Dalsan that the Premier and Villa Somalia had differed on how to deal with UAE with the Gulf country linked to recent rift between the central government and the regional states.
