Juventus have been linked with a ambitious move for Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, as Luciano Spalletti looks to add more creativity and leadership to his squad. The 31-year-old’s Serie A experience and technical quality have caught the attention of Juve’s hierarchy, who are keen to restore the club to the top of European competition.
Juventus’ interest comes at a time when contract extension talks with Fernandes are progressing slowly. While the Italian club have made contact with the player’s representatives to assess the market value, any potential transfer appears difficult on multiple fronts. Manchester United are reportedly demanding a fee between €50 million and €75 million, which alone presents a significant financial challenge for the Turin-based club.
Another obstacle is Fernandes’ high salary. He currently earns around £375,000 per week, and a new contract is expected to push that figure to £400,000, making him United’s highest earner. This wage level is far above what Juventus currently pay, with their top earner on approximately €6 million per year.
Furthermore, recent reports suggest Fernandes is not ready to leave Old Trafford. Contract negotiations are said to be ongoing, with the Portuguese international fully committed to staying at United, having already rejected approaches from clubs in Saudi Arabia. There is also an option to extend his current deal by a further year.
Juventus would need to make a substantial financial outlay and match high salary demands to lure the Portuguese star away from Manchester. However, almost all indications point towards him remaining at United, where he remains a key figure in attack and the club’s captain.
