Somalia’s Ministers of Interior and Defence, the Commander of the Somali National Army, Turkish officers, and other officials on Monday visited the towns of Sabiid and Caanoole in the Lower Shabelle region, where families displaced by militant destruction have been resettled.

The areas were previously liberated from the extremist group Al-Shabaab, referred to by the government as Khawarij. Following their liberation, the Federal Government pledged to rebuild homes destroyed by the militants and support affected communities in their recovery.

During the visit, local residents were handed newly constructed houses built to replace those destroyed during the conflict. Officials said the reconstruction effort is part of broader stabilization and recovery programs aimed at restoring normal life in the liberated areas.

In addition to housing, food supplies and humanitarian assistance were delivered to vulnerable families to strengthen livelihoods and accelerate the rebuilding of the communities.

Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to supporting residents in reclaimed areas through security, reconstruction, and essential services, as part of ongoing efforts to consolidate peace and stability in Lower Shabelle.
