Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro will on Tuesday traveled to the United Arab Emirates for an official visit during which he is expected to hold high-level talks with Emirati leaders, officials accompanying the delegation said.
The visit comes at a politically sensitive time, just weeks after Somalia’s federal government announced the termination of all previous agreements with the United Arab Emirates, a move that has further strained relations between Mogadishu and some regional administrations.
According to sources familiar with the trip, President Cirro’s discussions in the UAE are expected to focus on political cooperation, development support, and broader regional issues. The UAE has for years maintained close financial and political ties with Somaliland and Puntland, particularly in areas related to infrastructure development, security cooperation, and economic investment.

The federal government has recently adopted a firmer stance on external agreements, insisting that all international partnerships be coordinated through Mogadishu.
