Somalia’s Health Minister Attends WHO Executive Board Meeting in Geneva.

The Minister of Health and Human Services of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Dr. Ali Haji Adam Abubakar, has participated in the opening of the 158th Session of the World Health Organization (WHO) Executive Board, which officially commenced on Monday in Geneva, Switzerland.

Dr. Ali is leading a high-level Somali delegation to the annual meeting, which brings together senior health officials from across the globe to shape policies, resolutions, and strategic directions for the international health system.

Somalia is currently one of the 34 member states serving on the WHO Executive Board, a position that grants the country a direct role in global health decision-making, including voting on key policies that influence health priorities worldwide.

The session provides a crucial platform for Somalia to advocate for its national health interests, strengthen international cooperation, and contribute to discussions on pressing global health challenges such as disease prevention, health system strengthening, and emergency preparedness.

Officials say the Minister’s participation underscores the Federal Government of Somalia’s commitment to active leadership in global health governance, while ensuring that the health needs and priorities of the Somali people remain central in international forums.

The 158th Executive Board Session is expected to deliberate on a range of critical health issues and set the agenda ahead of the upcoming World Health Assembly later this year.
