The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, on Wednesday evening received a high-level delegation led by the Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Türkiye, Durmuş Ünüvar, at his residence in Mogadishu, during an official visit to the country.
The meeting focused on strengthening the strategic partnership between Somalia and Türkiye, with particular emphasis on cooperation in the development of infrastructure, ports, maritime transport, security, and energy sectors. Discussions highlighted the importance of expanding joint initiatives that contribute to sustainable development and economic growth in both countries.
Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre underscored the significance of maintaining and deepening the historic and longstanding relationship between Somalia and Türkiye. He praised the visible and impactful role played by the Turkish government in supporting Somalia’s reconstruction and the development of critical infrastructure over the years.
For his part, Deputy Minister Durmuş Ünüvar expressed his appreciation to the Prime Minister and the Government of Somalia for the warm reception. He reaffirmed Türkiye’s strong commitment to accelerating joint agreements and development projects that enhance economic growth, trade, and mutual prosperity between the two nations.
The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Somalia, H.E. Alper Aktaş. On the occasion, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre was presented with a valuable gift inscribed with verses from the Holy Qur’an, symbolizing the deep cultural and religious ties between the two countries.
In his closing remarks, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre expressed his gratitude for the continued support of the Turkish government and people, particularly during critical periods when Somalia faced challenges to its unity and stability. He reaffirmed Somalia’s appreciation for Türkiye’s consistent solidarity with the Somali people.
