Mayor of Mogadishu Lays Foundation for New Road, Announces Major Measures to Strengthen City Cleanliness

The Governor of Banaadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu, Dr. Hassan Mohmed Hussein (Muungaab), today laid the foundation for the construction of Cabdiqaasim RoaXasan d in the Hodan District, marking a key project aimed at improving the capital’s infrastructure and urban aesthetics.

During the ceremony, Mayor Muungaab highlighted that illegal structures had been the primary obstacle delaying the road’s construction. He instructed the demolition of all buildings obstructing the project, giving authorities a one-week deadline to fully clear the area.

The Mayor also used the occasion to send a clear message about the city’s commitment to cleanliness and urban order. He praised ongoing sanitation campaigns in Mogadishu and commended the role of the community, particularly youth activists on social media platforms like TikTok—for raising awareness on hygiene and public health.

In addition, Dr. Muungaab announced the formation of new sanitation inspection teams that will regularly monitor the cleanliness of neighborhoods, ensuring compliance with procedures and accountability among service providers.

He further stated that the criteria for sanitation companies would be reviewed to assess service quality and adherence to responsibilities, aiming to guarantee efficient and consistent waste management services.

Finally, the Mayor revealed plans to soon sign a new city ordinance on sanitation, which will establish clear procedures and responsibilities to strengthen cleanliness and maintain the aesthetic appeal of Mogadishu.
