The Federal Republic of Somalia and the State of Qatar on Tuesday signed a defense cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening military ties and enhancing security collaboration between the two countries.
The agreement was signed by Somalia’s Minister of Defense, Ahmed Macallin Fiqi, and Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al Thani.
The defense cooperation pact focuses on military training, the exchange of expertise, capacity building, and the development of defense capabilities. It also seeks to enhance security cooperation in support of broader efforts to promote stability and security in the region.
Officials from both sides said the agreement will contribute to strengthening Somalia’s national defense institutions while deepening coordination between the two countries’ armed forces.
The signing of the agreement further reinforces the strategic partnership between Somalia and Qatar, reflecting their shared commitment to advancing defense, security, and long-term military cooperation. Both governments emphasized that the partnership is intended to support peace, stability, and mutual interests in the region.
