Fighting broke out on Tuesday between soldiers belonging to the Federal Government of Somalia in the Kaawo Godeey neighborhood of Wadajir district in Mogadishu, residents and eyewitnesses said.

According to local sources, the clash erupted following a dispute among the government troops, though the exact cause of the disagreement remains unclear. Witnesses told media outlets that gunfire was exchanged for a period of time, causing panic among civilians living in the area.

At least two soldiers were confirmed injured during the fighting, according to initial reports from the scene. There were no immediate reports of civilian casualties, though the situation created widespread fear among residents.

Residents said the clashes triggered displacement, with many families fleeing Kaawo Godeey to seek safety in other parts of Wadajir district. Eyewitnesses reported that civilians hurriedly left their homes as gunfire echoed through the neighborhood.

Security forces later moved into the area to contain the situation, though it was not immediately clear whether calm had been fully restored. The presence of armed troops and sporadic gunfire reportedly disrupted normal activity in the neighborhood.

As of the time of reporting, neither the Wadajir district administration nor Banadir regional authorities had issued an official statement addressing the incident or clarifying the circumstances behind the clash.

Incidents involving disputes among government forces have occurred in the past and are often attributed to command disagreements, personal conflicts, or delayed payments. Analysts warn that such clashes pose serious risks to civilian safety and undermine public confidence in security institutions.

Residents have called on authorities to swiftly investigate the incident, hold those responsible accountable, and take measures to prevent similar occurrences in residential areas.

The situation remains under close watch as local authorities are expected to provide further details once assessments are completed.
