Former Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has issued a detailed statement on the country’s security, political, economic, and social situation, calling for national dialogue and unity.
In a statement released by his office, Farmaajo highlighted that Somalia faces “serious security challenges,” criticizing the current administration for disrupting counterterrorism efforts and weakening the country’s defense capabilities due to the fragmentation of the security forces.
He also expressed concern over what he described as the “resurgence of armed, clan-based conflicts” in parts of the country.
On the political front, the former president said that Somalia’s governance system has deviated from the agreed constitutional path, emphasizing that key political decisions require broad national consensus. He warned that unilateral or authoritarian measures could deepen divisions and hinder state-building efforts.
Regarding the economy, Farmaajo noted rising market instability, inflation, and declining public confidence, calling for protection of vulnerable communities affected by drought and other hardships.
Urging peaceful solutions, Farmaajo called for a “national effort,” appealing to the federal government, regional administrations, elders, civil society, and citizens to come together to safeguard stability, security, and constitutional governance.
He also advocated for renewed counterterrorism initiatives, political reconciliation, and inclusive dialogue.
Farmaajo expressed gratitude to international partners for their continued support and encouraged Somali citizens to remain hopeful, emphasizing that dialogue and consensus are essential for Somalia’s progress.
