The Committee on National Resources, Economic Infrastructure, and Transport of the Upper House of the Federal Parliament of Somalia on Tuesday summoned the Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Mr. Mohamed Abdi Hayir (Maareeye), along with other officials from the Ministry, to their offices for a detailed oversight session.
The Committee, fulfilling its constitutional mandate to monitor and hold government agencies accountable, engaged the Minister and accompanying officials in a thorough discussion regarding the Ministry’s operations.
Members particularly inquired about the implementation of the previously approved agricultural policies, strategies to reduce dependence on imported food, the state of the country’s irrigation canals, and other critical matters. The Minister provided detailed responses to all questions, explaining ongoing programs, achievements, and challenges.
Senator Saynab Ismail, who chaired the session, thanked the Ministry officials for providing comprehensive information and emphasized the importance of close cooperation to accelerate initiatives that benefit the Somali people and strengthen national agricultural productivity.
The session reflects the Upper House Committee’s commitment to ensuring transparency, accountability, and effective execution of Somalia’s agricultural and irrigation strategies.
