Galmudug Darawiish forces, particularly the elite Galayr unit, conducted a carefully planned night operation targeting Al-Shabaab positions in the El-lahelay area of Galgaduud region.
The operation aimed to dismantle militant hideouts and disrupt ongoing insurgent activities in the locality.
Commanding officers overseeing the mission informed Somali National Media that at least seven AlShabaab fighters were confirmed dead at the site of the attack. They added that security forces continue to pursue remaining militants and have successfully cleared several locations previously used by the group as bases of operation.
Due to the nocturnal nature of the operation, officials noted that the full extent of enemy casualties remains unverified. However, preliminary assessments indicate that a number of additional militants sustained injuries or were otherwise neutralized during the mission. The officers emphasized that a comprehensive report on the results of the operation would be shared with the public once verified.
The offensive reflects ongoing efforts by Galmudug security forces to curb Al-Shabaab’s influence in central Somalia.
