The Second Deputy Speaker of the House of the People of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Abdullahi Omar Abshirow, conducted an official visit to the Centre for Maqasid Research and Studies, where he was warmly received by the Centre’s Chairman, MP Mohamed Sheikh Ahmed (Mohamed Xaaji), along with senior staff members.
During the visit, the Deputy Speaker and the Centre’s leadership engaged in extensive discussions focused on strengthening institutional cooperation and enhancing the role of research in advancing good governance across the country. The dialogue highlighted the vital contribution that scientific research, policy studies, and evidence-based analysis can make in national decision-making and the reform of public institutions.
The meeting also explored ways to expand and improve the Center’s academic and community-based programs, which aim to promote knowledge, ethical leadership, and the principles of Maqasid al-Sharia in governance and societal development. The Deputy Speaker emphasized the importance of investing in research institutions as part of Somalia’s broader efforts to build resilient, accountable, and citizen-centered governance systems.
Following the discussions, Abshirow toured various departments within the Center and was briefed on ongoing research projects, publications, and capacity-building initiatives. He commended the staff for their visible dedication and the quality of work being produced, noting that such efforts play an essential role in supporting national development priorities.
At the conclusion of the visit, the Centre leadership presented the Deputy Speaker with a collection of books and recent research reports produced by the institution, symbolic gifts acknowledging the commitment of the House of the People to supporting knowledge-based governance.
The visit underscores the growing recognition of the importance of research institutions in shaping policy, strengthening governance frameworks, and contributing to Somalia’s long-term stability and progress.
