The Minister of Ports and Maritime Transport of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS), Hon. Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, on Friday evening officially inaugurated the launch of round-the-clock operations at Mogadishu Port, marking a historic milestone for one of the country’s most vital economic hubs.
Under the new system, the port will operate day and night without interruption, enabling continuous cargo handling, faster clearance processes, and improved logistical flow for businesses and transport companies.
The minister also confirmed the opening of unrestricted movement for cargo trucks operating within the port premises, a step expected to significantly ease congestion and enhance efficiency.
The ceremony marking this important breakthrough was attended by several high-level officials, including the Commander of the Somali Police Force, General Asad Osman Abdullahi, the Director General of Mogadishu Port, Ambassador Mohamed Ali Nur (Americo), the Deputy Director of the Port, the Head of Mogadishu Alport Company, and senior officers from the security agencies of the capital.
In his remarks, Minister Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur emphasized that the launch of 24/7 operations reflects the government’s commitment to modernizing the country’s maritime infrastructure, boosting trade, and supporting the country’s economic recovery.
He noted that the new measures will strengthen Somalia’s competitiveness in regional commerce and facilitate smoother import and export processes.
Officials at the event praised the collaboration between government institutions, port management, and security forces, stating that the improved operational framework will bring increased revenue, create jobs, and reinforce Mogadishu Port’s role as a central gateway for international trade.
The new operational system is expected to have an immediate positive impact on cargo flow, service delivery, and overall port performance, making this a landmark moment in Somalia’s ongoing efforts to revitalize critical national infrastructure.
