The Office of the Auditor General of the Federal Republic of Somalia today held a productive meeting with representatives from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The discussion focused on strengthening collaboration and support for ongoing efforts related to Corruption Risk Management, with the goal of promoting greater transparency, accountability, and integrity across government institutions.
The meeting was attended by the Auditor General, his Deputy, and senior officials from the Office, who underscored the commitment of the Office of the Auditor General to reinforcing cooperation with UN agencies that are dedicated to combating corruption and promoting good governance in Somalia.
During the meeting, both sides discussed ways to enhance institutional capacity for identifying, monitoring, and managing corruption risks within public institutions. The discussions also highlighted the importance of developing clear frameworks and practical tools for risk assessment, reporting, and follow-up to ensure the effective implementation of anti-corruption measures.
The Auditor General expressed appreciation for the continued partnership and technical assistance provided by UNODC and UNDP in building Somalia’s oversight and accountability systems. He reaffirmed that the Office remains fully dedicated to advancing transparency, strengthening financial governance, and supporting national efforts to eliminate corruption risks that hinder public service delivery and institutional trust.
For their part, representatives from UNODC and UNDP reiterated their readiness to continue supporting Somalia’s accountability institutions through capacity building, policy development, and technical cooperation aimed at fostering sustainable integrity systems across all levels of government.
The meeting concluded with a mutual understanding to expand collaboration on corruption risk management initiatives and to develop joint programs that promote good governance, public confidence, and responsible resource management within the federal government.
