The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Maallin Mohamud, today held a fruitful meeting with the Ministers of Constitution from the Federal Member States to discuss the ongoing process of finalizing Somalia’s Provisional Constitution, a top priority for the government.
The meeting reviewed the significant progress achieved in the constitutional process, including the completion of the reports for Chapters 5 to 9 of the Constitution, which have been submitted to the Parliamentary Constitutional Committee. This follows the earlier approval by Parliament of Chapters 1 to 4, marking a major step forward in the national constitutional review process.
Discussions also focused on accelerating consultations and technical preparations for the remaining Chapters 10 to 15. Minister Hassan Macallin reaffirmed the government’s strong commitment to completing the Constitution, emphasizing that the Ministry is working diligently to fast-track the technical drafting and review process so that the remaining chapters can be submitted to Parliament without delay.
For their part, the Ministers of Constitution from the Federal Member States briefed the meeting on the progress made in their respective regional consultations and outlined their priority plans for the next phase. They reiterated their commitment to closely collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs and the Parliamentary Constitutional Committees to ensure the successful completion of the Constitution, a cornerstone for Somalia’s governance, stability, and federal unity.
