The Banadir Regional Administration has officially denied allegations claiming that its employees were being coerced into registering with political parties, saying the administration has no involvement in such activities.
In a press statement released by the Office of the Banadir Regional Administration, officials emphasized that the administration fully respects the freedom of Somali citizens and their right to make independent political choices, including the decision to join or not to join any political organization.
“The Banadir Regional Administration wishes to clarify to the Somali public and the National Independent Electoral Commission that it has no connection whatsoever with the allegations suggesting that Banadir employees were forced to register with political parties,” the statement read.
The administration further explained that its role has been limited to supporting and encouraging public awareness campaigns related to voter registration, an effort it described as a national duty carried out in collaboration with the National Electoral Commission.
The statement also urged any individual or group that feels aggrieved or named in relation to the matter to pursue legal channels instead of spreading unverified claims that could mislead the public.
Finally, the Banadir Regional Administration reaffirmed its commitment to lawful cooperation with the National Independent Electoral Commission and pledged to continue supporting efforts toward conducting free and transparent elections across the country.
