Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, today received a high-level delegation from the Republic of Iraq at his office in Mogadishu.
The meeting aimed to enhance cooperation and deepen the long-standing brotherly relations between the two nations.
Discussions centered on strengthening collaboration in key sectors, including security, counterterrorism, investment, and economic development.
Both sides emphasized the importance of partnership in areas such as fisheries, energy, agriculture, and livestock , sectors that hold significant potential for mutual growth and sustainable development.
Prime Minister Hamza highlighted the historical ties that unite Somalia and Iraq, stressing the need to revive and expand diplomatic and economic relations.
He commended Iraq’s willingness to engage in joint efforts that promote peace, stability, and prosperity across the Horn of Africa and the wider Arab region.
The Iraqi delegation, for its part, expressed appreciation for Somalia’s continued progress in governance and stability, affirming Baghdad’s commitment to fostering cooperation with Mogadishu through trade, investment, and knowledge exchange.
The delegation also extended an invitation for closer coordination between the two governments in regional and international forums.
Both parties agreed to establish follow-up mechanisms to implement joint initiatives, promote business partnerships, and enhance people-to-people relations.
They reaffirmed that the relationship between Somalia and Iraq is built on shared values of solidarity, mutual respect, and cooperation.
The meeting concluded with a renewed pledge to transform the historical friendship between the two countries into a dynamic partnership that supports economic growth, regional security, and sustainable development.
