The Commissioner of the National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mahamuud Moallim Abdulle, today held a meeting with the World Bank Country Manager for Somalia, Hideki Matsunaga, to strengthen cooperation in disaster risk management, climate resilience, and community development.
The meeting, held in Mogadishu, focused on boosting coordination between SoDMA and the World Bank in areas such as disaster preparedness, risk reduction, and social resilience programs aligned with Somalia’s national development goals.
Commissioner Mahamuud Moallim Abdulle highlighted the importance of partnership in addressing recurring natural disasters that continue to impact communities across Somalia. He emphasized that enhanced collaboration with international partners like the World Bank will help the country build sustainable systems for early warning, response, and recovery.
“The World Bank has been a key partner in supporting Somalia’s efforts to build resilience and reduce disaster risks,” said Commissioner Mahamuud Moallim. “Our goal is to strengthen national institutions and empower communities to better prepare for and respond to emergencies.”
World Bank Country Manager Hideki Matsunaga commended SoDMA’s continued progress and dedication to advancing disaster management systems in Somalia. He reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment to providing both technical and financial support to strengthen Somalia’s capacity to manage natural hazards and adapt to the effects of climate change.
“The World Bank remains committed to working closely with the Somali government through SoDMA to build a more resilient nation capable of tackling climate-related challenges,” Matsunaga said.
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their shared commitment to enhancing coordination on disaster management, improving community resilience, and supporting long-term recovery and development programs that contribute to national stability and sustainability.
