Somalia’s Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Hassan Macallin Mohamud, has opened a two-day consultative forum aimed at reviewing two major legal reform bills, the Arbitration Law and the Evidence Law.
The meeting, held in Mogadishu, brought together justice sector officials, legal experts, members of the judiciary, and lecturers from law faculties across Somali universities.
Speaking during the opening session, Minister Hassan said the consultations are part of ongoing efforts to modernise Somalia’s justice system and align it with international standards.
He said the new Arbitration Law is expected to make it easier to settle commercial disputes and boost investor confidence, while the Evidence Law will strengthen the integrity of court processes across the country.
“These reforms are key to building a fair and transparent legal system that supports both economic growth and the rule of law,” the minister said.
Hassan also underscored the government’s commitment to passing well-researched and inclusive legislation, noting that the process is driven by dialogue and expertise from across the legal sector.
The two-day forum is expected to produce recommendations that will guide the final drafting of the bills before they are presented to the Cabinet and Parliament for approval.
