A light aircraft carrying 12 people has crashed in the Tsimba-Matuga area of Matuga Constituency, Kwale County, on Tuesday morning.
Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) Director General Emile Arao confirmed the incident, identifying the ill-fated plane as registration number 5Y-CCA.
The aircraft, which was ferrying tourists from Diani to Kichwa Tembo in the Maasai Mara, went down shortly after takeoff.
Witnesses reported that the plane burst into flames on impact, sending thick plumes of smoke into the air. Photographs circulating online showed charred debris scattered across the crash site.
Emergency response teams, including police, firefighters, and aviation investigators, have since arrived at the scene to conduct rescue and recovery operations.
However, officials say that adverse weather conditions are hampering their efforts.
Authorities have yet to release details on the number of survivors, as investigations into the cause of the crash continue.
The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority has assured the public that a full probe will be carried out to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
