Mogadishu, – The Commander of the Somali Police Force, Major General Asad Osman Abdullahi, held a high-level meeting on Saturday with Kęstutis Lančinskas, Head of the EU Capacity Building Mission in Somalia (EUCAP), and Dania Cossa, Head of Operations.
The meeting, held at Police Headquarters in Mogadishu, focused on strengthening cooperation between the Somali Police Force and EUCAP. Key areas included training programs, equipment support, and technical advisory servicesprovided by the EU mission.
The talks reflect ongoing efforts to boost the capacity of Somalia’s security institutions as the country works toward stability and self-reliance in law enforcement. EUCAP has long supported Somali police through specialized training, mentoring, and equipment donations.
General Asad, who has led the force through a period of reforms, has prioritized building professional capacity, modernizing operations, and fostering international partnerships. Observers note that his tenure has already brought visible improvements in the performance of the Somali Police.
EUCAP Somalia, launched in 2012, is a civilian mission under the EU’s Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP). Its mandate is to strengthen maritime security, policing, and rule-of-law institutions, working closely with Somali authorities and international partners.
Saturday’s meeting highlights the Somali Police leadership’s commitment to international cooperation as a cornerstone of building a modern, professional force. With EUCAP’s continued support, Somalia’s police are expected to gain both the skills and resources needed to safeguard communities and reinforce national security.
