The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), currently chaired by Turkey, has called on the United Nations Security Council to take firm measures against Israel following its unprecedented airstrike on the Qatari capital, Doha.
Speaking at the UN, Turkey’s envoy Ahmet Yıldız condemned the Israeli strike as a “flagrant violation” of Qatar’s sovereignty and national security. He described the attack as “an act of terrorism intended to destabilize peace and security in the Middle East.”
The statement came just days after Israeli warplanes targeted Hamas’s political delegation in Doha on September 9, killing several officials, including Khalil al-Hayya’s son, three aides, and Qatari security officer Badr al-Dosari.
The OIC argues that Israel’s actions threaten not only Qatar but the broader stability of the Gulf and the wider Middle East. “The strike was an unlawful use of force against a sovereign state and a direct assault on Qatar’s independence,” Yıldız said, urging the international community to prevent further violations.
Turkey, speaking on behalf of the OIC, demanded coordinated diplomatic pressure on Israel and accountability through international law. The organization reaffirmed its solidarity with Qatar, pledging to back its right to defend its sovereignty against any aggression.
The OIC, a 57-member bloc of Muslim-majority countries, has historically positioned itself as a defender of Palestinian rights and a critic of Israeli policies. Its latest call comes amid one of the most serious escalations in years, as Israel extended its military campaign beyond Gaza to target Hamas leaders abroad. Qatar, long a mediator in Israeli-Palestinian conflicts, has now found itself directly drawn into the confrontation.
The OIC’s call for Security Council action reflects growing alarm across the Muslim world over Israel’s widening military campaign. Whether the UN will take concrete steps remains uncertain, as divisions among permanent members often stall collective action on Middle East crises. Still, the attack on Doha has triggered unprecedented diplomatic fallout, with Qatar’s allies and Islamic states demanding accountability and warning that continued Israeli escalation risks plunging the region into deeper instability.
