The ribbon-cutting ceremony drew senior federal and state officials, traditional elders, religious leaders, and community representatives, underscoring the symbolic importance of the initiative.

President Laftagareen praised the people and administration of Buurhakaba for their unity and determination in completing the project, describing the airstrip as proof of what can be achieved through grassroots cooperation and national spirit.

“This airstrip is a clear demonstration that Somalis can drive progress when they show solidarity and collective effort,” the South West leader said.

The Buurhakaba airstrip adds to a series of community-driven development projects in South West State, highlighting the growing role of local initiative in rebuilding Somalia’s infrastructure after decades of conflict and neglect.
