Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre delivered a keynote address at a high-level forum focused on strengthening trade and investment ties between Somalia and China, outlining opportunities in natural resources and economic reform.

Speaking at the event, the Prime Minister highlighted the government’s policies designed to attract foreign investment, noting Somalia’s vast natural wealth and untapped markets. He emphasized that the country is open to Chinese businesses and encouraged investors to explore opportunities directly inside Somalia.

Hamza also presented the government’s National Transformation Plan (NTP), underscoring its central role in advancing economic growth, infrastructure development, and social progress. The plan, he noted, aims to build resilience, create jobs, and foster sustainable development across the country.

The Prime Minister’s remarks reflect Somalia’s broader efforts to position itself as a key economic partner for international stakeholders, particularly China, whose engagement in Africa continues to grow. For Somalia, closer trade ties with Beijing represent not only access to capital and technology but also a chance to diversify its economy and enhance regional integration.

By linking Somalia’s reform agenda with China’s interest in Africa, the forum reinforced the mutual benefits of stronger trade connectivity. For Mogadishu, it signals a commitment to openness, modernization, and building partnerships that could accelerate long-term stability and growth.
