Mogadishu, Somalia – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Wednesday received the visiting Director-General of Sudan’s National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS), General Ahmed Ibrahim Ali Mufaddal, at the Presidential Palace in Mogadishu.
During the meeting, General Mufaddal delivered a written message from Sudan’s Transitional Sovereign Council Chairman, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, reaffirming Khartoum’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation with Somalia in intelligence, security, and political affairs.
The talks were attended by the Director of Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), Mahad Mohamed Salad, highlighting the central role of intelligence-sharing in the discussions. While the contents of the message were not disclosed publicly, officials indicated that the focus was on reinforcing coordination between the two countries amid regional instability.
Both Somalia and Sudan are navigating fragile political and security environments. Somalia faces an ongoing insurgency by Al-Shabaab, while Sudan continues to grapple with an internal power struggle between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Intelligence collaboration has become increasingly vital as both nations confront threats from militant groups and transnational criminal networks across the Horn of Africa.
The meeting underscores a growing recognition among regional states that security challenges are interconnected. By engaging directly at the highest levels, Mogadishu and Khartoum are seeking to formalize intelligence cooperation as part of broader regional security frameworks.
