Lasanod, Sool Region – The election for the Speaker of the Northeastern Regional Assembly is set to take place today in the city of Lasanod, following the official close of candidate registration last night.

The Assembly’s Election Committee released the final list of candidates who met the constitutional requirements for the posts of Speaker and Deputy Speakers. The candidates are:

  1. Dr. Adan Abdullahi Aw-Hassan (#83)
  2. Abdiqafaar Mahmoud Mohamed (#76)

First Deputy Speaker Candidates

3. Ahmed Mohamed Ahmed (#17)

The vote is drawing strong interest, as it coincides with the upcoming presidential contest in the Northeastern Regional Administration, also scheduled to take place in Lasanod.

Analysts say the winners of the Assembly leadership posts are likely to wield significant influence over the trajectory of the regional presidential race.

Lawmakers are expected to cast their votes later today, with the Speaker’s seat seen as the most hotly contested, as two prominent candidates from the Sool area face off.
