The Federal Government of Somalia has assumed the leadership of the East African Standby Force (EASF), an intergovernmental organization dedicated to enhancing peace and security in the East African region. EASF is one of the five regional standby forces in Africa, composed of military, police, and civilian components.

The Minister of Defense of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Abdulqadir Mohamed Noor, took over the position of Chairperson of the EASF Defense Ministers’ Council from his Rwandan counterpart, Mr. Juvenal Marizamunda, during the 33rd Annual Policy Conference of EASF, held in Kigali, Rwanda.

This marks the first time Somalia has chaired the EASF Defense Ministers’ Council, 20 years after the establishment of the organization.

 

Minister Abdulqadir Mohamed thanked the outgoing chairperson and reiterated Somalia’s commitment to cooperation with all member states of EASF. He also extended an invitation for Somalia to host the next session of the EASF meetings.
