The Somali Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) apprehended Sufyaan Sheikh Ahmed, popularly known as Takeye, on Tuesday, on charges of propagating extremist ideology.
Takeye’s activities were reported to undermine peace, stability, and the government of Somalia, while also providing support to al-Shabab militants.
According to the authorities, Takeye had been actively promoting extremist ideas in recent times. The intelligence agency has initiated thorough investigations and interviews to establish the potential connections between Takeye and known terrorists. Takeye, a Somali citizen residing in Nairobi, Kenya, has come under scrutiny for possible links to extremist organizations.
While the Somali Intelligence and Security Agency have not disclosed specific details about the collaborators involved in Takeye’s arrest, it is noteworthy that the governments of Somalia and Kenya have experienced improved relations since President Hasan Sheikh’s re-election last year.
This development suggests that there may have been cooperation between the two countries’ security agencies in the operation.
Sufyaan Takeye gained significant attention when he introduced his four wives on social media platforms. In various interviews, he claimed to be the leader of the Talakunool political party, which reportedly boasts a membership of over 15,000 individuals. Takeye has been an advocate for changing Somalia’s flag and implementing Islamic law as the governing system for the country.
