A military court in Mogadishu has sentenced three traditional clan elders to a five-year prison sentence for cooperating with Al Shabaab.

The traditional elders, Omar Mohamed Jimale Adan (Omar Faninte), Ali Ahmed Hayle Araalle (Ali Yare) and Sugaal Warsame Ali Yarow, were arrested in late December after defying a government directive not to contact or cooperate with Al Shabaab militants.

The three men travelled to Haradhere district – which was liberated few weeks back and signed an agreement with Alshabaab.

The court sentenced them to five years in military prison and under police surveillance custody, as told to the media by  Colonel Hassan Ali Noor Shuute, the chairman of the Court of Armed Forces.
Elders however have the opportunity to file an Appeal.

On January 18 this year, the trial of Omar Mohamed Jimale Adan (Omar Faninte), Ali Ahmed Hayle Araalle (Ali Yare) and Sugaal Warsame Ali Yarow ended.

The elders defied the order that prohited them from dealing with Al Shabaab group which the federal gov’t is at war with.

Today, the court sentenced them to five years in military prison and under police surveillance custody, as told to the media by  Colonel Hassan Ali Noor Shuute, the chairman of the Court of Armed Forces.

Elders however have the opportunity to file an Appeal.
