The governor Marko town Osman Muse Mohamed on Sunday visited Jilib Marko in the Lower shabelle region of Southwest State of Somalia

Jilib Marko used to be a strong-hold of the militant group of Al-Shabaab and they used to organize criminal activities against civilians in the region and beyond according to security sources.

The government forces backed by local clan militias have liberated large swathes of territories mainly in the state of Hirshabele from the group since Mahamud announced the war on Al-Shabaab fighters.

Somalia has been plagued by insecurity for years, with Al-Shabaab being one of the main threats.
