The government of Somalia on Saturday evacuated 10 people among them children from Libya, Radio Dalsan reports.

Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Mahdi Mohamed Guled confirmed their arrival to reporters in Mogadishu and added that more are suffering.

“Today we succeeded to rescue ten people including a family and thanks to Allah they came back to their homeland safe,” said Mr. Guled.

“Many people are trapped in Libya. Some are in jails and others are held by human traffic dealers,” he added.

Mr. Guled also said that the rescue mission was to fulfil President Farmajo’s promise to save citizens from suffering in foreign countries.

“This is part of President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo’s pledges that he will provide an emergency response to the Somali people who are trapped in different parts of the world,” Mr. Guled said.

The government has recently dispatched a delegation to Libya in order to rescue and evacuate Somali nationals who were held in the country.

Many Somalis in search of a better life in Europe pass through Sudan and Libya where they are hunted by human traffic dealers locally known as “Magafes” who will hold them at ransom and mistreat or even kill anyone whose family could not pay the money they demand.
