Security agencies on Thursday arrested three people and  impounded hundreds of liters of a locally brewed alcoholic drink in Karaan district in the capital Mogadishu, Radio Dalsan reports.

The home brewery is said to be the main supplier of “Alaq” a local brew that is illegally sold in Mogadishu District Commissioner of Karaan Abdifatah Haji Nur.

“Today  is the second day of the swoop. We found the biggest “Alaq” and drug production centre. Those are the drugs used by gangs who terrorize people. Seven people were arrested in yesterday’s swoop. Today three were arrested and the containers and all the equipment they used in producing the wine are also confiscated” said Nur said.

“The operation will go on until ‘Alaq’ and all other drugs that are threat to the people are eradicated” he added.

Recently the number of criminal activities in the area and the ‘Alaq’ drink and use of other drugs has been on the rise.

On Wednesday 11 suspected gangsters were arrested and weapons recovered in Karaan .
