One civilian was killed and several police officers injured in a suspected Alshabaab attack on a convoy of bus in Lamu county,  Kenya Government said on Saturday.

According to a statement released by the Interior Ministry suspected Alshabaab militants waylaid the bus which was travelling from Lamu to Mombasa.

“There was an exchange of fire between the security team that was escorting the buses and the attackers during which one civilian was shot dead and some police officers suffered injuries” the statement said.

The militants destroyed two police vehicles during the exchange of fire.

This is the latest of a series of attacks in Kenya’s Lamu county by the Boni forest base Somali militant group Alshabaab.
