Somali National Army has over run and destroyed armed group Alshabaab key base on Saturday through Sunday.
Statement from Ministry of Defense via Villa Somalia has confirmed the operation to the media.
The Press statement said Somali National Army carried out well calculated operations and destroyed armed group Alshabaab key base in Goobaanle, Lower Shabelle region.
The statement further confirmed that the military seized cache of weapons and other equipment used by the militants to carry out terror attacks in the capital Mogadishu.
The operation that was lonely carried out by under equipped and poorly paid Somali National Army comes as the main AMISOM troops contributing state Uganda threatened to withdraw troops from the peacekeeping mission.
The African Union peace and security committee also this week increased the mandate of the AU troops to stay in horn of African state for another one year.
