Press statement from United Nations headquarters in New York has confirmed donation of US Dollars 2 Million to Somalia.
The funds from United Nations Peace and Development Trust sector is meant to support peace building efforts in the recuperating horn of the African state which has suffered more than two decades of civil war.
Speaking to state media, Radio Muqdisho Federal Government of Somalia Foreign Minister has said the funds will be used to support peace and security issues mainly in Banadir and Lower Shaballe regions respectively.
Abdisalam Hadliye added that the donation which will be directly channeled to the central bank of Somalia is not part of the international community development plan for Somalia famously known as “the new dealâ€
However Planning and International Cooperation Minister Abdirahman Aynte who welcomed the donation has stressed the need to channel the funds and use it in line with national development plan that was recently launched by the ministry.
“Use of funds for development are very clear in the our national development plans agenda,â€
The Federal Government of Somalia receives most of the funds from the international donors and has retained PricewaterhouseCoopers, a renowned international accounting firm to assist with tracking and reporting on the use of the funds.
