Armed group Alshabaab has said it killed more than 60 Ethiopian soldiers serving under African Union Mission in Somalia in an attack.

Al Qaida linked group online radio Al-Andulus has confirmed Thursday attack saying most of the soldiers died as the result of suicide car bomb explosion targeted at Halgan 300KM north of Somali capital Mogadishu.

Another report puts the casualties at 43 soldiers and other unspecified number of armed group fighters dead.

AMISOM Spokesman Joe Kibet has confirmed the attack to Radio Dalsan but said African Union troops have gained the full control of the base.

He added that it is very early to speculate number of casualties and they are waiting for accurate reliable information.

Unspecified numbers of Kenyan soldiers were killed in Alshabaab attack on January this year.

The armed group which was pushed out of main Somali cities by Somali National Army backed by African Union troops is exercising hit and run attacks against Somali government and AMISOM soldiers targets.
