Over 40 Al-Shabaab Fighters Killed in Goobo, Hiiraan

The Somali National Armed Forces, supported by international partners, killed more than 40 Al-Shabaab militants and wounded 12 others during a coordinated airstrike in the village of Goobo, Hiiraan region, late Monday night.

Somali National Army has today marked 56th anniversary since the force was established in 1960.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud,regional state leaders,members of the diplomatic core attended the ceremony at Defence headquarters in Mogadishu.

President Mohamud accompanied by Somali military chief received guard of honour from contingents from the navy,airforce and special forces.

The anniversary comes days after SNA in support from AU peace keeping troops gain strategic grounds from armed group Alshabaab in the recent offensive launched.

Senior Somali military officers and EU trainers received medals from the President for their efforts to restore peace and fight against terrorism mainly gains in the front line.

Turkey,US,UAE are providing training facilities to Somali National Army  in an effort to build national army.
