Somali Police Force in conjunction with local nongovernmental organization Somali Women Development Centre (SWDC) has launched hotline.

Hotline 5555 has been launched on 11 October 2015 in Mogadishu for victims of rape and other forms of sexual abuse.

Championed by the Somali Police Force and civil society organization, Somali Women Development Centre (SWDC), the hot line is expected to facilitate timely reporting and response to cases of abuse which are very common in the war torn state.

Decades of civil war and lawlessness has paved way for sexual abuse against women in Somalia.

September 2014 Human Rights Watch Report dubbed “power these men have over us” has accused African Union Peacekeeping Troops of sexual exploitation and abuse of Somali women.
