At least 4 civilians have been confirmed dead after a landmine which was planted on the side of a street in the coastal town of Merca went off.

“The deceased civilians were perambulators and the target was an African Union convoy which was passing in downtown Merca” said Radio Dalsan correspondent in the area.

The correspondent also added that the AU troops have carried out thorough search in the nearby business centers and residential areas.

The town of Merca is where African Union troops have last month killed 19 people Merca town including 7 of the same family, but has agreed to pay compensation.
