The President of the autonomous States of Southwest Somalia Shariff Hassan Sheikh Aden accompanied by some Ministers in his cabinet has on Saturday visited the coastal town of Merka the headquarters of the lower shabelle region.

The president and his delegation were highly welcomed by the local residents in Merka and the administration, and during the presence of the officials of SWS of Somalia in the town they had meetings with the different sectors of the community including the tradition elders, the youth and the women group.

With his meeting with the traditional elders the President has strongly encouraged them to intervene in stopping the tribal clashes which in intervals takes place in the town of Merka and its surrounding areas.

On the other hand the delegation will be having meeting with the officers of the African Union troops, to discuss with them to look after the rights of the residents in the town and not to harm them at any cost.

“The main purpose of the trip of the delegation of Southwest States of Somalia is mainly to mediate tribes who fought in the town and to brief AU troops about the rights of the residents in the town” said the spokesman of the Southwest States of Somalia Mr. Abdikadir Mohamed [Nadaara].
