Al-Shabab fighters have killed at least eight officers in a raid on a police station near the capital, a police official said.

The Police official has told Reuter’s news agency that “Al-Shabab killed eight of his colleagues and took three police cars.

Major Abdikadir Hussein added that they traced the fighters, killed ten of them and secured a pick up.

The group’s military operations spokesman, Sheikh Abdiasis Abu Musab, told Reuters his fighters had killed 12 officers in the raid on the Afgoi police station

This latest attack comes as the group threatened to intensify its attacks against internationally backed government during holy month of Ramadan.

On Thursday Somali security forces foiled an attempt by Al-Shabaab fighters to launch a suicide attack on a political conference in the central Somali town of Adado, killing three gunmen and the driver of a car packed with explosives.

Somali government is supported by 22000 African Union peace keeping troops under the banner of AMISOM.
