Waberi End Hodan Trophy Dream in 1st Night Football in 30 years

Waberi football team have finished Hodan team dreams of clinching Mogadishu inter district trophy on Friday.

The much awaited match that was played under the newly installed flood lights at Benadir stadium for the first time in 30 years saw Waberi in the upper hand in the first half before finishing the task in the second by three goals to one.

Hodan team which played good football in most part of the historic match wasted several chances including penalty shootout in the first half when Waberi player was red carded and penalty awarded.

More than 35000 spectators were present at the sea side Benadir stadium also known as Konis by locals.

Among the notable Somali government figures who turned out for the historic football match was Mogadishu Governor Thabit Abdi and the district commissioners of competing teams of Hodan and Waberi.

Hodan district commissioner Mohamed Ahmed Cantobo congratulated Waberi team for the winning the trophy.
In a Facebook post shortly after the final whistle Mr. Cantobo also appreciated the supporters and over 35000 spectators who showed up as historic night to remember in the hearts of Mogadishu residents.

“We will carry on the hunt for the trophy next time,” he concluded.

Governor Thabit Abdi also posted on his official twitter handle that he was “ proud of the city” social night life.
