Jubbaland Soldiers Protest Detention of Opposition MP

A section of Jubbaland regional state army on Sunday besieged a building where opposition MP Ahmed Hassan Abdi “Taajir” has been detained since last week, Radio Dalsan reporter in Kismayu says.

The Fiat building was surrounded momentarily while other soldiers took to its roof.

Soldiers blocked the main roads of the states administrative capital halting all normal operations in the port city of Kismayu.

“The soldiers are angry at the detention of Mp Taajir and are demanding for his release” a Jubbaland official who spoke to Radio Dalsan on condition of anonymity said.

MP Hassan was arrested  a day after he was stripped off his immunity a parliamentary committee for giving “false” information in his bid to table a motion to vote out the cabinet.

Mr. Hassan has criticized  President Ahmed Islam Madhoobe of  running an incompetent cabinet.
