Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is holding national consultations with former leaders, lawmakers and religious figures to coordinate a unified response to Israel’s recognition of Somaliland.
An elderly man, Abdi Ise Qooleey, was killed by unknown armed assailants in Abudwaaq, Galmudug, as authorities and local elders pursue the suspects to prevent further violence.
The Gaashaan Special Forces of Somalia’s NISA conducted a targeted operation in Omar Beere, Lower Shabelle, killing senior Al-Shabaab commander Hassan Sidow Hussein and three of his bodyguards. Hussein was responsible for planning IED attacks against civilians and infrastructure in the region. NISA confirmed that security operations will continue to neutralize threats and protect the public.
Somali National Army units from the 7th Battalion destroyed a series of improvised explosive devices planted by Al-Shabaab around Afgooye in Lower Shabelle, targeting key civilian routes. Commanders say the operation also dismantled extortion points used by the militants as security forces intensify anti-terror sweeps in the region.
