MOGADISHU — Likenew Smart Laundry officially introduced Somalia’s first 24/7 smart locker system in Mogadishu on June 25, 2026, enabling customers to deposit and retrieve garments at any hour through a secure, automated digital interface.

This launch signals a significant pivot toward digital service integration within Somalia’s burgeoning service sector. By decoupling laundry access from traditional brick-and-mortar operating hours, the initiative aims to solve logistical challenges for busy professionals, effectively bridging the gap between high-demand lifestyles and essential maintenance services.

The system relies on a secure, PIN-protected digital infrastructure. Once laundry is processed, users receive automated notifications via WhatsApp, ensuring a seamless, contactless experience that prioritizes both security and efficiency.

At the launch event, Director General of the Data Protection Authority, Mohamed Nur Olow, underscored the importance of the company’s technical compliance.

“Likenew has filled a major gap in the country, namely the digitization and transformation of laundry services into a digital format,” Olow stated. “The Lockers system and its app were designed in full compliance with international data privacy standards, reinforcing our laws and regulations to safeguard public data privacy.”

Likenew General Manager Ahmed Bashir Osman noted that the company intends to expand this concept across the capital to minimize transit times for residents. He explained that the lockers are intended to remove the traditional barriers of time and distance, effectively bringing professional laundry care closer to customers’ doorsteps.

By deploying these smart lockers in various locations throughout the city, the company seeks to reduce the burden of travel for its clientele while maintaining consistent service quality. The move marks a broader trend of local enterprises adopting automated technology to modernize the consumer experience in Mogadishu.
